Re:use, The Second Life Materiality
2023.  Architecture

The odontological programs at umeå university are today scattered around the city in several different facilities. Our idea is to gather them into a place of their own where they can get a sense of belonging and community: A Dental EducationCentre. An existing building, currently occupied by the Dental Technician program, is expanded to make room for all functional spaces, as well as spaces for gathering and sharing knowledge. By reusing existing material on the site combined with recycled material from other buildings in Umeå, our intention is to design a warm and welcoming building that reflects the indoor activities.

The collective memory house
2023. Architecture

The Cultural Memory House emerges from a deep personal and collective need to preserve, protect, and transmit cultural identity among displaced communities. Rooted in my own lived experience as a refugee, the project is a response to continuous displacement and the loss of tangible and intangible heritage that follows it.

The design is guided by the idea of restoring memories — gathering fragments of personal and collective histories, traditions, stories, and rituals, and giving them a space where they can be remembered, celebrated, and shared. The architectural form and spatial organization of the Cultural Memory House are informed by the concept of an evolving archive: a living repository of refugee experiences that grows through participation, storytelling, and communal engagement.

Yaquq village. Reviving a Palestinian architectural memory
Fall 2023. Architecture

This project is a personal and architectural journey to Yaquq, a Palestinian village located in the mountains of eastern Lower Galilee near Tiberias — and the place where my family originates. Once a vibrant community, Yaquq was depopulated and destroyed during the 1948 Nakba. Today, only stone rubble, a lone palm tree, and a few olive trees remain to mark the memory of a village erased.

As part of my fourth-year studies at Umeå School of Architecture, I set out to reconstruct Yaquq’s memory through spatial storytelling, archival mapping, and architectural speculation. By tracing oral histories, Ottoman and British maps, and archaeological remnants, the project aims to reimagine a living memory of the village — not merely as ruins or loss, but as a site of cultural resilience and identity.

This work is both personal and political. It interrogates what it means to carry a place within you after its physical destruction, and how architecture can serve as a vessel for resistance, remembrance, and return. The project merges historical research with contemporary design tools to propose an architectural revival that honors the everyday life, material culture, and spatial character of Yaquq before 1948.

Ultimately, this is not just a reconstruction — it’s a reclaiming.

The environmental bubble
2023. Architecture

See project
This project explores the concept of thermal comfort in residential architecture, emphasizing a climatic approach that balances the physical needs of the human body with subjective well-being. It investigates the integration of air and heat as building materials in Swedish residential architecture.

The study critiques traditional energy-intensive heating and cooling methods, proposing a design ethos that aligns with principles of sustainability and the adaptive thermal comfort model. Through a thermodynamic lens, the thesis follows the paradigm shift in architectural practice, emphasizing performance over form and the unseen meteorological influences within the built environment.

2022. Architecture

Sweden has a unique way to tackle the rural commons, Allemansrätten, where everyone has the right to access the landscape. Within 70 years, society has shifted from a rural to an urban condition - whereas Allemansrätten remains the same. How does one define an updated version of Allemansrätten, which reflects the state of contemporary urbanized society?

Craftopia explores building as a dialogue, as a social act, as a universal language that derives from sense of each place.
Understanding and love for crafting spaces creates a platform for building new culteres around common assets.

Incense Holder_ Burning Witness2023.   An artistic project that explores memory, ritual, and the cyclical nature of destruction. Using an incense holder shaped like a map of Gaza, the piece serves as a persistent reminder of loss and resistance. The project consists of three photographs that depict the object in different contexts: as a functional incense holder, as part of an everyday ritual, and as a visual representation of destruction’s remnants. The ashes and burned incense resemble the scattered debris of buildings and lives lost, while the glowing ember symbolizes the persistence of life amid devastation.By integrating cartographic references and a meditative process, the project creates a subtle yet powerful dialogue between the personal and the political. "Destruction Loop" is not just a reminder of ongoing genocide and destruction but also a call to remember, to mourn, and to bear witness. MOE Studio

Grandma´s sweet bread mold2023.   This wooden bread mold is a tribute to the enduring culinary and cultural traditions of northern Palestine. Inspired by my grandmother’s Eid bread and the intricate Galilean embroidery patterns from our village in the Galilee, this design reawakens memory and place through form.

Each carved symbol reflects motifs found in traditional Palestinian tatreez (embroidery), specifically those used in the regions near Tiberias. The mold doesn’t just shape dough—it shapes remembrance. It's a tactile continuation of a tradition passed down through generations, especially cherished during Eid celebrations.

Perfect for shaping festive spiced breads, the mold is crafted to echo both ancestral identity and artisanal beauty. Use it to make your own version of grandma’s fragrant, golden bread—rich with fennel, anise, and sesame—or simply as a decorative piece with a story to tell.

Birgit Skulle Aldrig Våga2025. Short movie

A short film inspired by the novel Preludium by Swedish author Karin Boye.

This evocative adaptation explores the emotional landscape of a young woman grappling with conformity, fear, and self-discovery in a rigid society. Through atmospheric visuals and a haunting score, the film captures Boye's timeless themes of identity, courage, and the quiet resistance that precedes transformation.

In 2022, 15.2% of women in Sweden aged 16–84 reported experiencing violence in close relationships. Of these, 33% were in same-sex relationships—an often overlooked reality. Birgit skulle aldrig våga gives voice to these hidden stories, illuminating the psychological weight of fear, control, and societal norms through a deeply personal lens.
